Melbourne Grammar School is settling into their two new performing arts centres at their Caulfield and St Kilda Road campuses. At least $10 million was spent on a major refurbishment of their heritage Memorial Hall on St Kilda Road campus and a new Performing Arts centre - the Alfred Fenton Hall on the Caulfield campus.
Planning for the new facilities began in November 2002. Price, reputation and ability to conform to the tender requirements gave Lightmoves the winning edge.
Almost a quarter of a million was spent on the supply installation and termination of the state of the art theatrical systems.
Both facilities have installed Dynalite for their house lighting and dimming control.
The MGS Memorial hall was excavated down 8 metres inside and 10 metres outside. This housed an orchestra hall and underground storage. A forestage lift was built with 15 winched bars, drapes and retractable seating. Lightmoves provided modern theatrical equipment whilst still retaining the Memorial Hall's historic facade. The theatrical setup included CircuitTube lighting bars, 4 breakout boxes, a 160 way Patch Panel, a DMX network with 3 dual universe inputs and 22 dual DMX Isoport outputs and a VGA network with amp. Various systems including an audience and cast paging system with crew intercom system, a theatrical data system, 60 way audio patch system with a Meyer powered speaker and audio stage boxes were also installed.
The Alfred Felton Hall saw Lightmoves' first installation of wireless DMX which produced outstanding results. This system's successful performance now sees Resolution X, Lightmoves' partner company, using Wireless DMX on a regular basis. The brand new hall included luminaires, 5 x14m CircuitTube, stage communication including intercom and paging, equipment racks, DMX console and distribution. Nearly 20 days was spent onsite installing and terminating the system.
Overall both projects were a tremendous success and has given Lightmoves the ability to add wireless DMX to their bag of tricks.
